mountain patrol:kekexili movie on the 31st august 2009

As for this week activity due to the fasting month, beaca group will not be doing something that relate to our physical. So this week agenda was watching movie. At the first place i was curious what will the movie all about. But i have thought in mind that this movie will be relate with our course. Movie that suppose to be meet to our criteria and mark scheme for blog which are relating examples culture, environment, economic, financial, lifestyle changes, traditions, society legal system, policy, infrustructure and practices. The title of the movie was mountain patrol: kekexili. Picture below is one of scene from the movie.

source from: [museum.oas.org]

The movie is based on the true story during Tibet in the year 1996. It is where the people(Tibetian) living in very harsh condition, environment, ecomony and struggle to save their one and only preserve animal called antelope. Their harsh condition and environment examples they have to stay in cold and mountainous area, desert land, shortage of water, poor standard of living, not enough food. therefore, some of kekexili people who are before work as cattling and herding animals end up as skinner and poarches to support their financial problem and get food for daily meals.this kind of practices not just from father to father but generate also from father to son. only with this kind of job can make their life better and get more money. It is because the price of selling this antelope wool also as known as chiru's wool is very highly cost. indeed, quality of the wool also count. Its very warm, soft and fine.Selling pelts can effort them buy cars and much more building beautiful houses and etc.

moreover, from the film, it shows me how the group of patrol mountain included one journalist headed by Ri tai hunt the poarches day pass day and what obstacles approaches them afterall. By facing the very cold climate, little grassland, snow area, quicksand, lack of water and foods, and run off gas of petrol some of them luckily managed to survive some of them are not. it was proved at the movie where lack of water, they eat the snow as the water to drink then little grassland with cold condition where it not possible for them to ignite the fire.so that they have to eat uncooked meat. kind of this practices are not new to them. Its always happening durimg they out to hunt the poarches. Due to those obstacles, Ri tai desperately sell the pelt at the end to save his friend lifes.

But then, apart from the very harsh condition and environment they have faced, there is quite intersting about their culture. The movie showed their culture of singing and dancing during night as become one of their entertainment eventhough they know there will no more after sun rises. They usually sing thier own kekexili song.one of them named white temple. In sense of friendship, they were very close like brotherhood.even they shared cup for drinking and start singing shows they were very happy and but deep inside i know they actually scared and no chances to come back home again.

Then again, different society have different their own unique o markable tradition or culture. According to the film, as for funeral ceremony, the body will not buried instead it choped into pieces and gives to the birds as their food. but thats the fact though. this kind of ceremony strongly happen to the society of Tibetan. The reason is the land or soil cannot encourage them to dig in due to desertification area.

finally, Ri tai were dead during the hunted. He was shot by one of the poachers member. Then last by the leader with a few time shots.he was killed cruely and no humanity. Even with less member of them just him and the journalist but he still not afraid to fight against the poarches until his last breath. Yet his mission to kill the poarches was failed but to stop the poarches from kill their prestige animal antelope was succed. Until then the journalist back to china and reveal all this matter. Therefore its open public eyes to china's goverment. As result china's goverment introduce a new policy. Policy illegally kill the antelope.

As for me, as a person with heart. This movie had given me a lot of knowledge, inspiration, sacrification and positive contrast compare with Brunei. Knowledge how lucky we live in this tropical area with dense vegetation which can provide food, better flow of water system which enough drinking water ,wealthy with oil and gas now building up the economic growth of Brunei by exporting oil and gas to other countries. fairly weather condition and landscapes leads to good environment therefore the soil giving good nutrient then its good for agriculture activites example activity of paddy which can provide food for us.as a result its gives job opportunities to people to raise money not like the skinner have to kill animal to making their wealthy.what give me inspiration is bond of friendship.even your are different blood, your treat them like your own blood.the closes bond friendship never end in whatever condition or situation you have even it good or bad.Knowledge me the endangered animal that we have to protect their species. positive contrast that Brunei have good infrustructure of building example houses but not to them just tent is enough for them to stay in and improper structure building they have causes of financial problem due to economic crisis.

Harvesting Paddy at Ladang Wasan Pangkalan Batu on 17th August 2009 by Hjh Norhakimah

Harversting Paddy at Ladang Wasan, Pangkalan Batu was my first trip and experience when I'm joining this program (BEACA UBD 2009). The trip was held in the early monday moring on the 17th August 2009. All the participants especially students who are joining this program were told to bring stuffs and tools which necessary examples boots, a small knife, gloves, and also own drinks and foods. To begin with, during the day, I had to wake up earlyaround 5.00 morning, I was kind of tired that moring because a day before I had orientation day at female residential UBD. But I managed to wake up and excited since this was my first trip ever. Then we waited at the SHBIE parking lot before 6.00 a.m. By around 6.10 a.m, bus came arrived to fetch us. It took us about 30 minutes to reach the paddy area. I was kind of excited during the arrived. What I saw, I saw birds flew, small Quills walking around the bank, wide hectares' of green paddy areas various types of trees examples papaya and jack fruit trees. The road that we had passed was muddy, slippery and sticky so that we had to wear boots to pass the path to the camp that had been provided for us by the owner of the paddy area. The worker welcomed us to come to the camp. We all assemble then the lecturer made a brief and instruction what should we do during the day. We were told to harvest the paddy by using traditional method. so that everyone can have experience how to harvest the paddy by using samll knife and lets us to feel how the workers felt. I had to use plastic bags then tied it up around my waist as a alternative way to put the paddy, since the usual basket named Tembigan was not enough. It was my new experience. At the time, the owner, Hj mohd Ali Bin Bakar also came along to join and gave us information about the paddy. Information about what the name of the paddy, how long it took to harvest, what kind of tools should they used to harvest and after harvest. Then I took all my stuffs ready to start my task. The worker named Ade at the age of 31 guided us where we should to harvest. Unfortunately, I couldn't managed took pictures while I'm cut the paddy. The area was so muddy and water all over the area. Me also get Stuck at a certain spot. It was hard and hot that time. I was sweat all over. But I have to learn all this and accecpt the challenge. It was fun even we still can laugh each other and had a chat among us then took pictures by our lecturer. And even I dropped my knife a few times because never get used to wear glove and wet. Ade had told me that paddy took about 3months and 10days to harvest. After that it can be separate the wasted product by using a machine called 'Kabutah'. So the remaining paddy are then to dry up under the sun about 2 to 3 days. And also the black plastic that tied at the side of paddy are use to avoid rat to enter the paddy . We finished early about an hour. The time given was not enough for me, I still wanted to enjoy and cut more paddy. For the last agenda, we all was provided with foods and drink to be serve, which provded by the owner itself. Last but not least, everyone was given a souvenie 1.5 kilos of paddy named ' Padi Laila'. Then we all finished nearly 8.30 am and back to UBD around 9.15. To rap off my words, pictures below were what i have done during the trip:

what I saw when entering the entrance: green paddy and the tools to avoid birds take the paddysign or marked to know who is the owner of the paddy and how to make the birds stay away from the paddy after the paddy being cut, it have to dry it up under the sun for few days and how it worksthe guy name Ade is the workerthe sourvenir 'padi Laila'the machine use to separate the paddy and wasted product
after what we have done and still having fun eventhough it was so tired

what i have learn from this trip, it taught me everything. That Brunei also can success with agriculture not just depending on oil and gas. Agriculture also can considered as our resources. How we can still depending on nature like trees and the river.Learning some experience and challenges whatever the situation and obstacles are such as wet, hot, muddy and dirty. Learn alot of information about paddy, how to use trditional method just knife and the basket.and also learn how to be discipline, punctuality and alert at our surrounding
